Stage 2 - Utrecht

Published by Marcel Bootsman on May 20, 2019

The night

I had a great nigh, and slept very well. I woke up around 7am. After a nice breakfast and some talks in the morning I packed my backpack and started stage 2.

The start

Not as impressive as yesterday, the start today was just me, leaving a house, and saying goodbye and thanks to Yvette. I just started walking, in the right direction.

The route

I walked from Gouda to Utrecht. A wonderful walk through the ‘Green Heart’ of The Netherlands. Here are some pictures to illustrate that:

Sadly the weather was bit grey-ish, but the temperature was good.

This is the route I have walked.

The animals

During the route I had some close encounters with animals. The first was a very friendly dog. Here he is:

A dog licking my chin in a field

Then, I had to cross a field with some cows. And a massive bull. I survived, but the bull was so impressive I even forgot to take a picture.

After that, I had to take a path with some high grass. I took a turn to the left, and there she was. A soon-to-be-mother swan, with 5 eggs. I saw the eggs, because the swan was scared by me, stood up and started hissing. I was startled and again did not make a picture. You just have to believe me.

The sleeping accommodation

I arrive a bit early today, but Rik was already at home. I took a quick shower, and we had a beer, together with his girlfriend Femke. Great hosts, adventurers and they really liked to hear my story. Then Rik made us dinner and we chatted some more.

I also tried to sync my strava activity, during a little ‘mobile-moment’, which in the end worked out.

Thanks Rik and Femke, and sorry for breaking your little showertimer-hourglass.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow, I will walk to Amersfoort. A walk of 28km.

Welterusten / sleep well!
